After 20 years at the corner of 82^nd & 3^rd, Our Place Cuisines of China is moving around the corner, and down the street, to 242 East 79 Street.

When we first opened our restaurant, it was the realization of a dream. We were ten friends, former waiters, who worked hard and long to open our own restaurant. We hoped, but never imagined, that 20 years later, we would begin our third decade in business. 

In 1990, we prepared a menu of Hong Kong–inspired Chinese Cooking adapted to New York tastes. We also brought a level of service to the Upper East Side, not experience in many Chinese Restaurants. It was a happy combination.

In the 20 years that have passed, you and your families have traveled and been exposed, to a wide range of Chinese foods.  New York also became home to many different Chinese people who opened restaurants of their own and broaden our appreciation of the cuisine. In recognition of this, the new Our Place will introduce dishes that reflect authentic regional specialties.

What’s more, because we are all more conscious of our health, we will offer many healthier dishes, as well as more modern versions of your favorite dishes. You’ll see that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Toward this end, we have invited a new Chef to be our partner. Although Chef was classically trained in China, he has been working as the number 1 Chef at one of Tokyo’s best-known restaurants and was formerly at one of Tokyo’s most prestigious hotels.
